Personal project
Barricade
For my exams in highschool we needed to make a piece based on a given word, poem or picture. You had the option to choose one out of seven topics. I chose the word barricade. I used this word by showing the message of someone trying to run away from their hard feelings, but if you try to run away from your problems instead of solving them they will eventually hold you back. I liked the idea of a man actually running away but the heart staying in place and started working on this.
My approach
For this project I wanted it to be very noticeable and big. This is why I made the statue in the proportions and size of an actual person. At first I made all the pieces separate: the hands, feet, arms etc. and after this I placed it in such a way that would give the look of a man running and trying to reach to go further.
The heart would pull the skin of the running human back and will be floating mid air with dripping blood to show that it is hurt. In the end I made the decision to not put a head on my work because I noticed that it would draw the attention from the actual message.
