Moulage
In fashion, "moulage" is a technique where fabric is draped and shaped directly on a mannequin to create garment patterns, allowing for precise fit and complex designs. For this project I got inspired by the artists Iris van Herpen and Alexander McQueen. Iris van Herpen works a lot with reusing materials and showing a form of nature. She inspired me to use her nature like shapes into my piece and also reuse fabrics. As for Alexander McQueen I got inspired by his use of volume into some of his pieces.
My approach
I chose to work on the volume in the neck and around the shoulders and to make a corset around the rest of the body. To really place the focus on the shoulder pieces I chose to make the body a black color and to place the bright side of the denim on top.
I also placed the denim in this way so that the darker side of the denim would work as a shadow to give more contrast to the piece.
